On July 30th, 2021, Bleachers released their highly anticipated third album Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night via RCA Records.

Kicking off 2022, Bleachers made their debut performance on NBC’s Saturday Night Live, performing two songs, including their new single “How Dare You Want More”, to mark the seminal show’s first episode of the year.

Offering up the first taste of new music in late 2020, they previewed the album with a series of singles including “Chinatown” ft. Bruce Springsteen and “45,” followed by “Stop Making This Hurt,” which received a Best Alternative Video nomination at the 2021 MTV VMAs, and hit #1 at Triple A and Top Tenat Alternative radio.

Associated Press called the project “terrific,” while Entertainment Weekly deemed it “a canny commingling of indie-pop jangle and unabashed arena rock,” and Rolling Stone praised its “rock and roll thrillers with punchy pop pleas.”

Known as one of the best live acts in the world, this past fall, Bleachers hit the road for their sold-out Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night headline tour, a multi-city run across North America.

Take the Sadness Out of Saturday Night serves as the follow-up to their critically acclaimed second album Gone Now, which came out on June 2nd, 2017. The first single, “Don’t Take The Money,” hit #3 at Alternative Radio, while the New York Times called Bleachers’ music “anthemic life-affirming pop-rock.” Five-time Grammy Award-winning singer, songwriter, musician and producer Jack Antonoff is the creative force behind Bleachers

Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons
Tickets
Jul 21 @ 7:30pm
Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons @ San Jose Civic | 135 West San Carlos Street, San Jose, CA 95113 | United States

Nederlander Concerts welcomes Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons back to the San Jose Civic.

Frankie Valli, who came to fame in 1962 as the lead singer of the Four Seasons, is hotter than ever in the 21st century. Thanks to the volcanic success of the Tony-winning musical Jersey Boys, which chronicles the life and times of Frankie and his legendary group, such classic songs as “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” “Walk Like a Man,” “Rag Doll,” and “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” are all the rage all over again.

As two touring companies of Jersey Boys travel around the U.S., the real Frankie Valli is packing concert halls coast to coast, from the Rose Theater, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City, to L.A.’s Kodak Theater, home of the Academy Awards.

Frankie and the Seasons have influenced many other great recording artists. That was acknowledged in dozens of tributes collected for Jersey Beat, a Four Seasons boxed set.

For example, from Barry Gibb: “Frankie Valli to me has become one of the hallmark voices of our generation. From the deepest emotions of his real voice to the power of his falsetto, he created a style that we all still strive to emulate.” From Billy Joel: “I wrote ‘Uptown Girl’ as the flip side to the story of ‘Rag Doll.’ I always loved that record.” And from Brian Wilson: “In the early ’60s the Four Seasons were my favorite group. I thought they were fantastic. The voice blend was fantastic. The competition helped me to get cracking. It inspired me, because they made good music. I went to the piano thinking I could top their music.”

Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons have sold over 175 million records worldwide.

Please Note: Per state guidelines, face masks are strongly recommended indoors for all attendees, except when actively eating or drinking.

For more info, please see our Health and Safety Policy.

Note: This concert was rescheduled from an earlier engagement. Tickets for the originally scheduled date will be honored at this new date.

Sebastián Yatra
Tickets
Sep 11 @ 7:00pm
Sebastián Yatra @ San Jose Civic | 135 West San Carlos Street, San Jose, CA 95113 | United States

It’s not much of a stretch to say that Sebastián Yatra represents the future of Latin music. The Colombia-born, Miami-raised artist has deep reverence for the genre’s traditional roots—something underscored by his velvet-lined voice, which switches easily between romantic crooning and sultry pop swagger — but he also heavily favors modern sounds such as reggaeton, electro, and even hip-hop.

This unique sonic alchemy has already made Yatra a star in his native Colombia; in fact, both 2016’s reggaeton-inflected “Traicionera” and the Carlos Vives-featuring 2017 single “Robarte un Beso” have hit No. 1 there. “Traicionera” was also the musician’s breakthrough in Spain, Ecuador, and the U.S. Latin-pop market, and established him as a musical force.

Incredibly enough, music wasn’t Yatra’s first choice of occupations — he originally wanted to play professional soccer. But he caught the performing bug as a teenager, and started singing and writing songs in addition to learning guitar and piano. In 2013, at the age of 19, he released his debut single, “El Psicólogo,” which became a mild hit in Ecuador. Yatra grabbed onto this momentum and eventually found his niche, which helped him start building a career in savvy ways.

Most notably, Yatra toured with Paty Cantú and Sandoval, which helped him to become more comfortable on stage and develop a reputation as an earnest, open performer. All of this hard work is paying off. He received two 2017 Latin Grammy nominations, for Best New Artist and Best Contemporary Pop Vocal Album (for Extended Play Yatra). The full-length Mantra topped the charts in Argentina and spawned the hits “No Hay Nadie Más” and “Por Perro.” And the breezy non-album single “Ya No Tiene Novio,” featuring Mau and Ricky, is also amassing staggering YouTube streaming numbers.

It’s clear that Yatra is on the precipice of something big and bold — and, perhaps even more importantly, has the skills and disposition to embrace his bright future.

Kansas

Kansas @ San Jose Civic | 135 West San Carlos Street, San Jose, CA 95113 | United States

America’s preeminent progressive rock band, Kansas, is bringing their popular Point of Know Return Tour to San Jose.

In 1977, Kansas followed up the success of Leftoverture by releasing the album Point of Know Return. Containing the smash hit and million-selling single “Dust in the Wind,” along with fan favorites such as “Portrait (He Knew),” “Closet Chronicles,” and “Paradox,” Point of Know Return became the band’s greatest-selling studio album. The album peaked at #4 on Billboard’s Album charts, reached sextuple-platinum status with more than six million copies sold, and had three Billboard Hot 100 singles.

“We were in the final legs of the latest Point of Know Return Tour in the United States and Europe when COVID halted touring around the world,” commented Kansas drummer and original member Phil Ehart. “With so many Point of Know Return dates needing to be rescheduled from 2020 into 2021 and 2022, it made sense to extend the tour into more cities in the United States during that time period. When it is all said and done, this tour will have spanned nearly 150 dates and a live album. Next, we look toward Kansas’s 50th Anniversary!”

Throughout the tour, live shows not only culminate with the album Point of Know Return performed in its entirety, but Kansas also performs classic hits, deep cuts and fan favorites. In some cases, the band even puts a new spin on a Kansas classic. The tour will also include select songs from the band’s critically acclaimed 2020 studio album The Absence of Presence. This musical event has songs for every type of Kansas fan.

Kansas is currently comprised of original drummer Phil Ehart, bassist/vocalist Billy Greer, vocalist/keyboardist Ronnie Platt, violinist/guitarist David Ragsdale, keyboardist/vocalist Tom Brislin, and original guitarist Richard Williams. Originally formed in 1973 in Topeka, KS, the band’s documentary film KANSAS: Miracles Out of Nowhere is currently being broadcast on AXSTV.

Kansas has released 16 studio albums, including its most recent releases The Prelude Implicit (2016) and The Absence of Presence (2020). With no signs of slowing down, Kansas continues to “Carry On”; performing in front of large and enthusiastic audiences around the world.

Testament
Tickets
Oct 15 @ 6:45pm
Testament @ San Jose Civic | 135 West San Carlos Street, San Jose, CA 95113 | United States

The time has arrived for Testament to unleash new thunder to the masses and reveal their thirteenth studio album: Titans Of Creation. Just as the elements of this planet thrive within all living creatures, each musician in Testament represents a necessary component of this latest musical endeavour. Still filled with a massive and unstoppable energy since their last release, Testament has taken their style to the next level and present an album that is loyal to the roots of traditional thrash metal while still bringing alluring, brilliant, and progressive ingredients to the table. Bass is showcased, new vocals are introduced, and as expected, the guitar work of Peterson and Skolnick is greatly complex and mesmerizing.

Eliran Kantor stepped up once again to create a new piece of artwork for the cover of this release. His classic, almost Renaissance style of painting melds beautifully with the ancient, psychological, and enlightened subject matter of the songs. Three monstrous titans stand in the place where the planets are formed. One pours molding liquid which the others hammer into human DNA, twisting and turning into the ring of a newborn planet. Each titan has the flame of a dying star burning in their chest; the origin of the atoms making up the bodies that are bubbling and boiling on the curves of the spiraling helix.

Titans Of Creation has many moods and material contained within; all of which somehow tie into a common philosophy of creation and its necessary counterpart: destruction. “Children Of The Next Level” smashes through the gates as the opening track with a flood of sound that prepares the listener for an abundance of violent thrash. Meanwhile, the lyrics rage about the outrageous philosophies of the Heaven’s Gate cult (founded in 1974).

Songs like “Dream Deceiver” carry more old-school sound that will tickle the senses of any common Testament fan. The lyrics describe being trapped in a dream by an otherworldly female force who is slowly working to degrade the mind. Dreams are part of existence, but when we are asleep we are entirely vulnerable; one of the many mysteries of being human. “Someone’s haunting you and won’t leave you alone; the only time they pick at you is at night when they can control the way you sleep,” describes vocalist Chuck Billy.

“Night of the Witch” features frightening and captivating vocals from Eric Peterson. Carrying a vibe far more akin to Black Metal, Peterson swoops in with a power that melds perfectly with Billy’s ground shaking, guttural growls. Taking some influence from Robert Egger’s 2015 horror masterpiece The VVitch: A New England Folktale, the song carries with it a magical quality that directly reflects the mood of the film. At the very end of the track, a theremin howls through the air much like witches rising towards the moon; setting the final tone. “The album has a lot about it that’s fresh to the ear,” explains Peterson.

Written by guitarist Alex Skolnick, “Symptoms” is filled with detailed with intricate guitar work that well represents the complicated and spellbinding journey that comes along with handling depression, mood swings, and a countless list of mental health frustrations. The lyrics in this song discuss a sad truth: that mental illness is more common than we all think, and than many of us are willing to acknowledge. On a lighter note, a vibrant track entitled “The Healers” swings back and forth between waves of death and thrash, heavy and melodic, light and dark. The words are spiritual, and extremely personal. They describe Billy’s own experience dealing with all natural medicine men; the elders of the earth, and how they managed to help him pinpoint and heal his past illness. “City Of Angels” comes bearing an entirely new sound for Testament. The creeping sludgieness and slow, stalking tempo, walk hand in hand with the almost unbelievably gruesome tale of the Nightstalker Richard Ramierz, all combining to form another stand-out track on the record.

The following was written in 2020: “…the days of writing an album all together in one room are far gone, but to be able to take advantage of technology allows for Testament to go about a very similar writing process to what they always have. Basic songs are molded, structures are added by everyone in the group, instrumentals are highlighted, and finally the lyrics and vocals are created to finalize the sonic story. Facetime and human-to-human contact still remain crucial elements to Testament’s songwriting process and, at some point throughout, every member physically interacts and writes with one another. In-between writing this album, the band toured relentlessly which allowed for less stress, more time in-between, and greater inspiration for this album cycle. There was also plenty of anxiety-free and level-headed time for pre-production and the initial recording process with Juan Urteaga of Trident Studios. Andy Sneap was then able to tweak, mix, and master this album to his usual perfection.”

Testament’s process of creation has evolved and progressed yet they’ve remained steadfast over the course of literal decades. While always managing to present the genuine aspects of thrash metal that solidify their existence, they spread into unique horizons through developing crisp and fascinating sounds.

Tickets are on sale as of April 29.

Diego El Cigala – 20 Años de Lágrimas
Tickets
Nov 4 @ 8:00pm
Diego El Cigala - 20 Años de Lágrimas @ Center for the Performing Arts | 255 Almaden Blvd., San Jose, CA 95113
