Socially Inept: Roast of Silicon Valley
Tickets
Mar 30 @ 8:00pm
Socially Inept: Roast of Silicon Valley @ Montgomery Theater | 271 South Market St., San Jose, CA 95113

From the Event Organizers: “Corporate techlords rule the world like a bored kid clicking around in SimCity 2000. And you work for them, because the snacks are free. We get it, we used to be just like you — did the cringy bidding of the same data-driven demigods — our wills waning, souls wasting, waiting silently for our stocks to vest.

“Then we quit. Formed a fearless band of renegade tech comedians.

“Now we roam from town to town, roasting whimpering techies like you in front of live crowds. We have sold out shows in Austin, L.A., N.Y., Seattle, San Francisco and Mountain View — but this will be our first time in San Jose.”

Ages 18+, only. (I.D. required.)

Doors open at 7pm.

Please Note: Per state guidelines, face masks are strongly recommended indoors for all attendees, except when actively eating or drinking.

100 gecs
Tickets
Apr 4 @ 8:30pm
100 gecs @ San Jose Civic | 135 West San Carlos Street, San Jose, CA 95113 | United States

100 gecs planted their flag on the proverbial pop culture moon with their 2019 debut album 1000 gecs, which was heralded by The New Yorker as “an impressively precise maximalist exercise with no rules” and “utterly unhinged in the best way possible” by GQ.

The innovative project captured the hearts of fans and critics alike — selling out all of their live shows to date, along with the New York Times calling it “some of the savviest pop music of the year” and Rolling Stone dubbing it “one of 2019’s most exciting debuts.”

In just a few months following the release of 1,000 gecs, the band went from playing their first concert from inside the video game Minecraft to selling out shows across the country, proving that their rabid, rapidly multiplying fanbase doesn’t only exist in the far corners of the internet.

After their world tour was postponed in the summer of 2020, Brady and Les kept rolling with the release of 1,000 gecs and The Tree of Clues, a rework of the original album featuring collaborations from the likes of A. G. Cook, Fall Out Boy, Charli XCX, and Rico Nasty, as well as crowd sourced contributions by fans. The transformative release was described by NME as a “brain-melting, genre-crushing vision of pop’s future.”

Their subsequent international touring over the past two years has sent the unlikely wizard-cloaked pied pipers jumping from sold-out show to sold-out show, seemingly two steps ahead of the zeitgeist, not to mention having a blast while doing it.

Machine Girl is also scheduled to perform.

Tickets are on sale as of January 27.

Cinderella – San Jose Dance Theatre
Tickets
May 19 – May 21 all-day
Cinderella - San Jose Dance Theatre @ California Theatre | 345 South First St., San Jose, CA 95113

Cinderella is a classical ballet composed by Sergei Prokofiev, first performed in 1945. Prokofiev’s music for the ballet is renowned for its sweeping melodies, lush orchestration and charming melodies, making it an enduring classic that continues to be performed all over the world. With its timeless story of love, kindness, and perseverance, Cinderella remains one of the most beloved ballets of all time.

A wealthy merchant widower has a beautiful and kind daughter. He knows he cannot care for her alone, so he marries a woman with two other children around his daughter’s age. His new wife is jealous of Cinderella’s beauty and the love her father has for her and treats her poorly. The Stepmother forces the young girl to do housework while her own daughters are doted upon.

The kingdom announces a ball for the young Prince to meet his future bride. All the ladies of the household are thrilled to attend, but Cinderella is told she cannot go. She helps her stepsisters and stepmother get ready to leave for the ball and finds herself alone and crying, because she is not able to attend. A beggar woman finds Cinderella and Cinderella helps the old woman because her heart is pure.

The old woman magically transforms into Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother. Her Godmother waves her wand and Cinderella’s tattered house dress becomes a beautiful ball gown. The fairies of Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter come, each offering her their season’s gift. The nymphs of the forest come to celebrate the magic of the evening.

At the palace, the court jester is waiting for the ball to begin. As the guests arrive, a large celebration commences. Cinderella arrives late, and she is so beautiful that not even her stepsisters recognize her. The Prince is entranced and falls instantly in love with her. As the night comes to an end, Cinderella must leave the ball before midnight or risk losing the magic of her transformation.

In her haste to leave, she loses one of her slippers, which the prince uses to search for her and find out her true identity. When he arrives at Cinderella’s home, her stepmother and stepsisters try to claim the slipper as their own, but Cinderella produces the matching shoe revealing her to be the mysterious princess. The prince and Cinderella are then married in a grand celebration.
