The second program of the season reunites two former classmates, both prodigious pianist-composers from pre-Revolution Moscow: Rachmaninoff, flamboyant and tormented neo-Romantic, and Scriabin, mystic and visionary.
Returning Chopin master Nikolai Demidenko will perform an early work by the composer often called the Russian Chopin.
Rachmaninoff’s 2nd Symphony follows — nostalgic, gloriously melodic, known for one of the most heartbreakingly memorable themes in the Romantic repertory.
