Two great pianists team up to perform Mozart’s concerto, a work filled with sparkling repartee as the two instruments vie with each other, then unite to suggest “some transfigured, heavenly barrel-organ.” They follow with Saint-Saëns’ Carnival, also with double piano and probably one of the most entertaining classical works ever written.
In the second half of the program, the mood changes as vocal soloists and chorus join the orchestra in Mozart’s sublime Requiem.
