Clark Gesner based his 1967 musical You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown on Charles Schulz’s beloved Peanuts characters. True to the cartoon, Charlie Brown undergoes a small but meaningful identity crisis. He struggles to understand what it means to be “good,” how to talk to his crush, and who he truly is, to himself and others.
The other Peanuts characters experience similar difficulties—Linus has separation anxiety from his blanket; Sally is receiving bad grades; Lucy has unrequited feelings for Schroeder.
At its core, this CMT Rising Stars production of You’re a Good Man Charlie Brown is a collection of tiny coming-of-age stories that explore what it means to truly grow up and know yourself.
