Set in the thickets of the Indian jungle, The Jungle Book musical is based off the Disney movie of the same name. The protagonist Mowgli was raised by a pack of wolves and is dubbed “man-cub” by the other jungle animals.
Mowgli is a happy-go-lucky kid who loves to play in the jungle and to make friends with the other jungle critters. However, when a man-eating tiger is rumored to have returned to the jungle, Mowgli’s wolf mother decides that Mowgli must leave for his own safety, but Mowgli refuses—he cannot leave the home of his childhood. His friends’ opinions on the subject differ.
Despite repeated attacks by a hungry python, a kidnapping by the orangutans, and a hungry tiger on the prowl, Mowgli wants to remain in the jungle. The Jungle Book is a fine example of the difficulties of growing pains and what it means to accept responsibility, a lesson Mowgli slowly learns.
This story also extolls the power of friendship and looking out for one another. The Jungle Book includes famous Disney songs such as “Bare Necessities” and “I Wanna Be Like You.”
